Rainbow Announce ‘The Temple of the King 1975–1976’ Box Set | Pulse Records News

Rainbow have announced "The Temple of the King 1975–1976", a comprehensive 9-CD box set celebrating the band’s earliest and most influential years.

Scheduled for release on March 6, 2026, via Edsel Records, the collection focuses on the period that established Rainbow as a defining force in hard rock and proto-metal. Newly mastered by Andy Pearce and Matt Wortham, the set is presented as the first instalment in a planned anthology series chronicling the musical legacy of guitarist Ritchie Blackmore.

Housed in a deluxe 7-inch book-style package with a 24-page booklet, "The Temple of the King 1975–1976" includes Rainbow’s first two studio albums, "Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow" (1975) and "Rising" (1976). These releases are widely regarded as cornerstones of the band’s catalogue, capturing the early chemistry between Blackmore and vocalist Ronnie James Dio and laying the groundwork for Rainbow’s enduring legacy.

In addition to the studio material, the box set features three complete live concerts recorded in Germany in September 1976, captured in Köln, Düsseldorf, and Nürnberg. Previously available only as Japanese releases, these performances document Rainbow at a creative and performative peak, showcasing extended arrangements and the band’s growing confidence on stage.

The final discs expand the archival scope further, compiling rare and previously unreleased material making its debut on CD. This includes studio rehearsals for the 1976 world tour, single edits, mono and stereo mixes, and early rough mixes from the "Rising" sessions. Together, the nine discs provide a detailed and authoritative snapshot of Rainbow’s formative era.

"The Temple of the King 1975–1976" stands as both a historical document and a definitive archive, tracing the foundations of Rainbow’s sound while offering collectors and longtime listeners access to material long absent from the wider catalogue.
