Kever's "Primordial Offerings" is one of those rare EPs that hits like a forgotten relic of early-'90s death metal while still feeling feral, focused, and unnervingly atmospheric.
Spinning this 2019 black-vinyl pressing, you enter a vortex of cavernous riffs, suffocating drums, and ritualistic ambience — the kind of record that drags you straight into the underworld without any hesitation.
The EP opens with an ominous instrumental introduction that sets the tone from the start: desolate, ritualistic, and drenched in occult dread.
When "Lords of Karma" kicks in, the full weight of Kever's approach becomes clear — thick, grinding guitars, blasting percussion, and vocals that sound like they're clawing their way out of an ancient tomb. It's old-school death metal through and through, but sharpened with modern production choices that keep the attack tight and forceful.
"Back from the Netherworld” deepens the assault with faster transitions and a more dynamic interplay between riffs and atmosphere. The groove is undeniable, yet it never loses its bleak aura.
"Act of Oblation" slows things down just enough to flirt with doom influences — crushing mid-tempo sections that feel like marching through mud while the world burns around you.
The EP closes with "The Ceremony," a longer, more ritualistic piece layered with keys, choirs, and dark ambience. It's slightly disjointed in structure, but its atmosphere is so thick and unsettling that it works as a final descent into the abyss.
Production-wise, the EP finds a strong balance: raw enough to feel authentic, clear enough to let every riff slice through. Guitars dominate the soundscape with a thick, necrotic tone; drums are punchy and present; vocals hover in a spectral mid-range without being drowned in reverb. The only minor weakness is a bass presence that sometimes feels too buried — but the overall force of the mix more than compensates for it.
As a final statement from a band that ended too soon, "Primordial Offerings" feels like Kever's last ritual — a brutal, atmospheric, and convincing fusion of blackened death metal spirit with old-school craftsmanship. Fans of Morbid Angel, early Death, Bolt Thrower, or any cavernous death metal with a ritualistic bend will find this EP essential.
