Pungent Stench – Self-Titled Compilation Reissued on CD/LP/MC via Hammerheart Records
Classic Austrian filth is back from the grave — Pungent Stench’s self-titled compilation is out now on CD, LP and cassette via Hammerheart Records. Raw, rotten Death Metal from 1989 finally gets a proper treatment again, just like it should: loud, ugly and absolutely essential.
This new edition collects the infamous Pungent Stench side of their split with Disharmonic Orchestra, plus the tracks from the legendary "The Pleasures in Life" compilation — all from the same 1989 studio session — and throws in a complete 1989 live recording as bonus. You get early cuts like "Pulsating Protoplasma", "Dead Body Love", "Miscarriage", "In the Vault", "Rip You Without Care", "Festered Offals" and "Pungent Stench" in their most primitive form, followed by a feral live assault straight from the Rockhaus days.
This is Pungent Stench before the sick grooves, before the infamous covers and twisted humor fully exploded — just three lunatics spewing pure underground brutality and helping define the late '80s Death Metal boom out of Europe. The sound is rough, dirty and totally unpolished, but that’s the point: it’s a document of a band right as they were mutating from demo cult into a serious force of sickness.
Here at Pulse Records we’re already lining up to get this beast into the distro — expect copies of the CD, LP and tape to land soon. If you worship early Death Metal history, collect old demos, or just love that rancid late-’80s feel, this Pungent Stench reissue is a mandatory addition to the shelf. No trends, no soft edges — just the stench of pure death.
