Waltteri Väyrynen, the current drummer for Opeth, has publicly shared his original 2022 audition video for the track "The Devil’s Orchard", as reported by Lambgoat. This performance would ultimately secure his position in the legendary Swedish progressive metal band. At only 31 years old, the Finnish drummer already boasts an impressive résumé, having previously performed with Paradise Lost, Bloodbath, and Bodom After Midnight.

Väyrynen stepped into the lineup following the departure of longtime drummer Martin “Axe” Axenrot in 2021, with Sami Karppinen temporarily filling the seat until a permanent replacement was found. The newly revealed footage offers a rare look at the pivotal moment that connected Väyrynen with Opeth's future musical direction.

Reflecting on the audition, Väyrynen comments: “The performance is far from perfect, but it’s interesting to see the differences compared to how I play the song live nowadays.” He notes that he performed without a click track, resulting in minor timing inconsistencies, yet shares the clip as a meaningful snapshot of his journey into Opeth.

The release coincides with Opeth's extensive 2025 touring schedule, spanning North America and Europe, where fans will have the chance to witness Väyrynen's refined live interpretation and unmistakable power behind the kit.
