Death Angel - Mark Osegueda Teases New Music

Death Angel are ramping up momentum once again. In a recent conversation with Full Metal Jackie, frontman Mark Osegueda offered fans a glimpse into the band’s next chapter — confirming that not only is the writing process well underway for their first album since 2019’s "Humanicide", but that the new material carries a fierce, sharpened edge comparable to their recent singles "Cult of the Used" and "Wrath (Bring Fire)".

Speaking about "Cult of the Used", Osegueda explained that the track addresses global manipulation and the ease with which political and social powers influence a society increasingly distracted by screens and division. Despite its heavy themes, he reassured that the band remains focused, energized, and committed to creating a record with significant bite — a well-rounded but relentlessly intense release that could arrive as early as late 2026 or the beginning of 2027.

The interview also touched on the Bay Area tradition that has become the iconic Death Angel Christmas Shows. What started as a small single event has grown into an annual celebration, now reaching prestigious stages such as The Fillmore. With this year marking the 35th anniversary of "Act III", the band has been performing the album in full — a nostalgic and emotional experience for both musicians and fans.

Osegueda also reflected on the creation of "Act III", recalling the band’s transition to Geffen Records, the expanded budget, and the invaluable guidance of legendary producer Max Norman. Overwriting and exploring new textures — including acoustic arrangements — set the groundwork for a record that has since become a cornerstone of their discography. Revisiting the songs today, Osegueda approaches them with more vocal experience, maturity, and renewed appreciation.

The interview also revealed insights into Osegueda’s collaborations with Kerry King. Following an extensive touring cycle in support of "From Hell I Rise", the band is already in the writing and demoing phase for King’s next solo album, expected to be recorded in early 2026. Meanwhile, Death Angel have festival dates lined up — including Maryland Deathfest — while continuing to craft their next full-length attack.
