Candlemass - Johan Längqvist Open to More Shows with Messiah Marcolin | Pulse Records News

In a recent interview with Neil Jones of TotalRock, Johan Längqvist discussed the much-talked-about onstage return of former Candlemass vocalist Messiah Marcolin during the band’s special appearance at Rock Hard Festival Greece on 13 September 2025 in Athens. The show marked the first time Marcolin had performed with the doom legends in nearly two decades.

When asked if the event was intended as a one-off, Längqvist confirmed it was: “Yeah, that's the way it was supposed to be.” He explained how Greek fans — who have supported the band since its early years — expressed their desire to see Candlemass reunite with Messiah Marcolin for at least one show. “We were all talking about it, and we all said, ‘Yeah, for sure.’ And it turned up to be one show with Messiah.”

Längqvist clarified that he did not appear onstage during the performance: “No, no, no, no. I wasn't there at all, actually. But Messiah had my blessing.” He added that although he knows most of the singers who have been part of Candlemass over the decades, he only met Marcolin last year: “We're grown-up people these days. If the fans wanted to see a show with Messiah, I don't have a problem with that at all, actually.”

Meanwhile, Messiah Marcolin himself expressed enormous enthusiasm about the reunion show, thanking fans from around the world who traveled — some from 40 different countries — to witness what he described as a “fantastic show.” He also hinted at the possibility of more dates: “I never said this is the only show we're gonna do — Leif Edling said that.” Marcolin encouraged promoters globally to reach out to manager Olé Bang to book Candlemass featuring Messiah Marcolin, noting that the fan demand is undeniable.

No Upcoming Tour Dates Announced
At this time, neither Candlemass nor Messiah Marcolin have confirmed additional shows together. Should promoters and festivals step forward — and treat the band as well as Rock Hard Festival Greece did — Marcolin says he sees “no reason” why it couldn’t happen again.
